SEAN RICHEY Performing Artist, Composer, Arranger, & Music Educator
Sean Richey is a performing artist and music educator living in New York City. He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music's Jazz Arts Program. As an active freelancing guitarist, Sean has performed with a variety of differnent productions at venues such Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Monterey Jazz Festival, The Cutting Room, Central Park SummerStage, Rockwood Music Hall, National Center for the Performing Arts (Mumbai, India), The Mahindra Blues Festival, and many other venues around New York. Sean also recorded on commercial productions with Ashu Phatak, in Mumbai India.
In 2008, he moved to NYC to study with Chris Rosenberg at the Manhattan School of Music. In that same year, Sean was also the recipient of 2 Student Composition Awards for "Best Original Songs" from DownBeat Magazine. He was the recipient of the Monterey Jazz Festival's Gerald Wilson Big Band Composition Award, and received the NY Regional Scholarship Award for Jazz Guitar from NFAA, Young Arts.
In 2012, he graduated from the Manhattan School of Music's Jazz Arts Program, receiving his BA in Jazz Performance and the Outreach Award (for 'displaying exceptional leadership and a humanitarian spirit in field of Music Education').
He is originally from Fresno, CA, and has a twin brother, named Justin Richey, a freelance bassist/bandleader currently residing in New York City. Together they lead a project, with singer/songwriter Michael Slowey, called The Ramble.
